at the boston convention center. i talked to a top campaign aide, he said they were feeling confident. they like what they're seeing in their internal polls. now it's just all about which of these candidates' supporters are most intense and most enthusiastic and how many of them are going to turn out to vote today. >> jan crawford, thank you. president obama made his last campaign stops monday in wisconsin, ohio, and iowa. and after his final rally in des moines, the president spent the night in his hometown of chicago. nancy is there. good morning. >> reporter: the president is waking up in his own townhouse th morning, and unlike governor romney, he is staying put. no campaign stops. he'll play a traditional pickup basketball game with friends and aides, maybe drop by obama campaign headquarters to thank all of his staffers and volunteers. then tonight he will head to this convention center for what he hopes will be a victory party. on a clear, chilly night, president obama joined 20,000 supporters at the same corner in downtown des moines where he opened a small campaign office back in 2007.

that at all. all up and down the east coast from long island, through boston, this storm is hitting people very hard. as we've been talking about the last couple of days, for us, we're not seeing us get hit hard at all. first off, the radar picture, if you take a look outside, we've got plenty of clouds across the region. we are starting to see some shower activity and some light rain moving in. that is all it is right now. light rain. i would not be surprised to see a few snowflakesed mixed in from time to time. most of this is in southern maryland, around fredericksburg. but most of this is very, very light. you may need to put those windshield wipers on just a little bit. but that is it. as you can see here, this is where the snow is, up through new york, trenton, new jersey, around the philadelphia area, seeing a mixture of rain and snow. and right along the shore, the places that were hit hardest by sandy, the jersey shore, long island, staten island, they are seeing tremendous snow right now. and not just with snow, they're looking at very strong winds, upwards of 40, 50, 60 miles no

at the temperatures. charleston, west virginia, cold, 40, boston, 42 but everybody else in the 30s. new york city at 39. that means the outskirts outside of the city even colder closer to freezing and the windchills this morning are right there with you. i'd love to tell you it gets warm the next couple of mornings but people still getting power back in atlantic cities close to freezing by early tuesday. it's not going to be all that nice and then we have to talk about that storm, of course, you have that jet stream holding on to the cold air that will grab moisture down in the southeast and that's where it picks up the pace and it starts to form the nor'easter. you'll have rain showers from the carolinas on tuesday down into florida, then for your wednesday, it starts to move north. that's when the winds pick up in the northeast, 40 to 50-mile-per-hour winds, and then by thursday it really mixes in with some cold air, coastal new england gets the rain, back here in upstate new york, the poconos into the snow. how much and what to expect. here it is, 1 to 3 inches of rain, 6 to 12-foot waves and,

factor right now especially close to new england. i'm south of boston. take a look. you have the boats in the water and that water is churned up. the winds consistent, 30, 40, close to 50 miles per hour sustained. over the last several hours. seen gusts still clocking in at 60 miles per hour. we had a report out towards the cape of 60 miles per hour and nantucket with a peak wind gust of 68 miles per hour and seeing reports with the consistent winds of some coastal flooding including high water over the roads in nantucket. a few trees down and led to scattered power outages. you can see behind me, higher water this morning and we are now not at high tide and not seeing the stray come up and over. that was a concern, as well. when's interesting about this storm is winding down and pulling away, wind is still going to be such a huge factor. easing winds means 20 to 30 miles per hour as we get in to the evening opposed to 40 or 50 miles per hour. but that's going to be the case even going through the end of the day today. snow not so much an issue along the coast. it's been the wind and t

island, and for atlantic city, places like boston, generally speaking, we're starting out as rain, and maybe a rain/snow mix. and then we're looking at it changing over to all rain. well, the frontal system is making its way towards the eastern seaboard, computer models probably overdoing the snowfall just a little bit. i think if anything, a half inch or an inch. but we're not looking at big, sick amounts. however quite a different story back across texas into louisiana and arkansas, with a chance for some hail. strong winds. and possibility of some tornadoes going into the afternoon. this is going to be an afternoon event, and the rest is just slight across this region. in new york, those readings will be in the 40s today. but for new york city, on tuesday, only into the 30s. and then we see this slow upward tick as far as the temperatures go. so, john, it looks like it's going to be fairly messy for people who are going to try to still be recovering from superstorm sandy. >> starting when, karen, was that? >> this will be on tuesday. it will start tonight, and going into tuesda

outside of boston. when governor romney walked inside, he was asked by one of the reporters who followed him who do you vote for? he said i think you know who. this is the end of a six-year journey for governor romney, a presidential bid that dates back that long. today he's actually going back on the campaign trail. he's going to head to ohio and pennsylvania to try to rally support there, motivate supporters and also thank some of his volunteers. the president, of course, voted earlier. he voted last week. he is spending this day in chicago in what has become an annual tradition, at least on election day for the president is that he's going to have a game of basketball with some of his close friends, by natalie, as we have witnessed, this is an exceedingly close race right now and both sides are particularly confident that despite polls that may show the president with the lead they are going to come out victorious tomorrow. that's the latest from here. now back to you. >> peter alexander in belmont, massachusetts. and a reminder can you catch all of our nbc election night coverage liv
